Local: We are a Houston, Texas based trucking permits company which helps make us experts in trucking permits and services in Texas. It is much better than working with a permit company based in another state or country who may not understand your needs as a Texas based carrier.
Our goal is to complete your permit filings as soon as possible so you can get to work. We start working on your permit filings within 1 business day. Some permits may have longer hold times due to mandatory federal waiting periods or government agency processing times.
Some permit processing times are also dependent on how quick you can provide required information and paperwork in order for us to complete them.
We recommend a Texas LLC for most small trucking companies. You have multiple company entity options for your Texas trucking company. You can pick between a Texas LLC(Limited Liability Company), Texas Corporation, Sole Proprietor, or Partnership for your trucking company.
It’s important to have a Texas entity since some permits such as Texas IRP Apportioned plates and your TXDMV are tied to it being a TX entity.
Check out our blog on the different types of company entities you can form in Texas.
An Employer Identification Number is a 9 digit number issued to company entities for identification purposes. You need this number to issue out W-9’s, tax paperwork, file taxes, open bank accounts, and more for your company.
We can help start your freight broker authority in Texas. We have helped countless Texas freight brokers get started and are experts in ensuring that we file the correct special paperwork needed to start your Texas freight broker authority.
GVWR stands for Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. It is also referred to as GVW which stands for Gross Vehicle Weight. Your GVWR is calculated as the weight of your truck and trailer while carrying a full cargo load. This can determine if the drivers for your commercial vehicles are required to have a CDL.
GVWR is especially important for trucking companies with box trucks and hot shots to know. if you are trying to operate as a Non-CDL trucking company but your GWR is more than the Non-CDL limit of 26,000 lbs, you will be required to get apportioned IRP plates as a CDL trucking company and have drivers with a CDL to operate that truck and trailer combo, regardless of the weight of any particular load you intend to haul.
Carriers that hire CDL drivers are required to conduct DOT drug and Alcohol testing (§382.103) on those drivers. You are required to conduct a pre employment drug test when hiring new drivers, when there is an accident, and randomly. Trucking companies enroll in a drug consortium program that helps manage this. We can refer you to a partner drug consortium if you are looking for an affordable drug consortium. Just contact us.
Your trucking company will need Texas IFTA stickers if you go out of state regularly. You can get temporary fuel permits if you do not go out of state often but many states have restrictions on how many you can get in a certain time period.
In Texas, this depends on your operations and the type of commercial vehicles you have.
Apportioned registration, also known as the International Registration Plan (IRP), is a program for licensing commercial vehicles engaged in interstate operations. It lets you obtain your truck’s registration in Texas so you don’t have to get trip permits for each state you travel in. If you operate across state lines, you may be required to get apportioned registration. The applicant is required to be a Texas resident or have an “Established Place of Business” in Texas.
On the other hand, combination registration is for a truck or truck tractor with a gross weight of more than 10,000 pounds that is used in combination with a semitrailer having a gross weight in excess of 6,000 pounds. These must be registered with a combination plate for a gross weight equal to the combined gross weight of all vehicles in the combination. A vehicle with a “COMBINATION” plate may pull a semitrailer with either a “TOKEN TRAILER” or a “TRAILER” license plate. Combination plates are good for carriers that only run in Texas.
All Mexico based trucking companies are required to obtain a special type of trucking operating authority. We can help fill out these special registration forms and submit them to the FMCSA.
We help with a wide variety of services such as setting up your Texas trucking company entity, help obtain your Texas trucking authority, obtain your other necessary trucking permits for Texas, freight factoring, trucking permit renewals, and more. If there is something we don’t offer online, feel free to ask us anyways. We have a great partner company network and have more than likely ran into your problem before.
